Week Three, Day Two

Published by pef1996 at 8:16 pm under Knitting, May 2008 Class Edit This

As promised, I have two pictures showing you how the different stitches look when you use them in knitting. We are working with one cloth with each stitch, one done entirely with garter stitch and the other with stockinette.

garter_stitch.jpgThis brown and white varigated cloth is done with garter stitch. It’s tight and the stitches are close together. It makes a good cloth to scrub with. If you plan on knitting one entirely in garter stitch, you’ll have to make it much longer for it to wash a larger area.

The yellow cloth is done with stockinette stitch. Because you are changing from knitting to purling, the stitches are longer so the cloth is longer and wider than the one done with garter stitch.  This makes a good cloth to wash with, usually in the bathtub or shower. This one also seems to work up faster only because you stockinette_stitch.jpgdon’t have to do as many rows, but you have to remember to change from knitting to purling. I accidently knitted when I should have purled and created a cute little line of bumps, but you can easily get turned around!

I hope this helps you to see how to use two different stitches. In the next four days, we’ll create one dishcloth that is made up of four different stitches. It’ll be quite unique!
