Materials for this week

Hello everyone! This week will hopefully be fun for everyone! I hope that it is! We are going to be doing some very simple sewing projects this week, things that can easily be done in a couple of hours or at least in one day.

I wanted you to gather some simple supplies for this week. You’ll need to make sure you have plenty of thread and plenty of fabric. Now, if you don’t have any fabric, head to Wal-Mart or your local craft store first thing and look in their clearance bin in their fabric area. I can find lots of different kinds of fabric for cheap and it’ll be just enough for what we’ll be doing this week. Just grab five or six different ones and you’ll be good to go. Also, check out and see if they have any ribbon on clearance that might match the fabric you’ve picked out. You might even check your house for ribbon as well. Now for some of these projects, you can very easily use some of the quilting batting that you can find for a couple of dollars at Wal-mart or your local craft store. But if you don’t have any, then I’ll show you something else you can use instead.

Once you have some fabric, thread that matches (or comes close to matching) your fabric, scissors and some ribbon (might or might not be using the ribbon, but it’s always good to have), you’re ready to go. Make sure you’ve gotten your sewing machine out as well. I usually take over my entire kitchen table while doing my projects so get some space ready for the whole week!

Check your fabric and if it has any wrinkles, be sure to iron it before you start sewing. It always makes for a better looking project when there are no wrinkles!  Be sure you have your machine’s manual handy too in case you run into any problems.

These are the projects that I thought we’d make: placemats, a small bag/purse, pillowcase, table runner and some coasters. If you have some other ideas, feel free to let me know and I’ll see if I can work them in. See you tomorrow!
